Reliable real-time energy data processing

The platform now processes data from more than 450 metering points in real time, handling inputs from multiple sources with varying quality and granularity. In its first six months of operation, it processed approximately 35 million meter readings and automatically calculated more than one million missing values.

Challenge

Smart Energies was facing a growing administrative burden tied to new energy legislation and increasing data quality requirements for reporting to OTE (the Electricity Market Operator) and EDC (the Energy Data Center).

The time required for data administration increased significantly after mandatory daily reporting to OTE was introduced. A process that had previously been handled by simple Excel macros became too complex. Every day, large volumes of data in precisely defined formats had to be reviewed, missing values calculated, and accuracy verified. Data also came from multiple sources — from metering systems to manual readings — which further extended the process and reduced efficiency.

What CodingBear suggested

At Smart Energies, we deployed EnergoSync, our modern cloud platform for processing meter data. Its key benefit is the automation of data processing and reporting workflows. Reducing the "human factor" in working with data series dramatically lowers the risk of error, real-time processing speeds up the workflow and enables immediate response to exceptional states. And not least, EnergoSync is designed to adapt to each client's specific needs.

Integration and security

We connected EnergoSync to the Helios billing system via a custom-built smart agent deployed within the client's on-premise infrastructure. This approach ensures a high level of cybersecurity, as systems within the private network initiate outgoing connections themselves rather than accepting requests from outside. The agent ensures continuous data upload to the billing system, always delivered on time and at the quality required by current legislation. In the event of technical outages, EnergoSync can fill in missing data using appropriate methods (e.g. consumption profiles).

Automation and data quality

The platform unified data processing from multiple sources (Mervis SCADA, FlowBox, manual Excel readings) and enabled automatic correction of erroneous values. EnergoSync can process data from both high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) meters. We expanded the monitored parameters to include two-tariff metering, reactive power, load profiles, instantaneous power, and electricity generation. Each of these data points has defined validation and automated processing workflows, improving data quality and consistency.

Operational support and management

We tailored the interface and processes to Smart Energies' day-to-day workflow. The system now supports audit functions, missing data checks, and anomaly detection — enabling quick response to deviations and maintaining high reporting quality.

Long-term value

EnergoSync continues to evolve alongside Smart Energies' needs. It has become a stable part of their data infrastructure and forms the foundation for further development and digitalization of internal processes. An important part of this is continuous development that keeps pace with the evolving legislative framework for energy reporting.
